F.R.E.S.H. New London does so much good in the community, in fresh new ways. Its focus is making fresh, healthy foods immediately accessible to low-income families, while offering leadership opportunities to at-risk youth. A recent $5,000 grant from the Liberty Bank Foundation will support its Youth Ambassador Program. About 50 area students will be involved in planting, maintaining and harvesting community gardens, and managing the F.R.E.S.H farm stand. Along the way, participants will learn about agriculture, nutrition, marketing, responsibility, teamwork, and professionally interacting with the public. As students move through the program, they also have the opportunity to take on leadership roles, and some may even advance to paid positions.
