At first blush a career in banking (at least to a teenager) isn’t at the top of the wish list. That didn’t stop dozens of high-schoolers from around Middlesex County from stopping by the Liberty Bank booth … and from being pleasantly surprised. At the May 2 career fair held at Wesleyan University, hundreds of students had a chance to learn about life in the work world and which careers might be worth pursuing. Liberty Bank’s Jason Smith and Jim Brainerd were on hand to field the questions and broaden students’ understanding beyond their limited bank-branch impressions. “Banking is a business like any other,” says Jason. “Beyond what people see at the branch, we offer jobs in marketing, technology, human resources and our foundation.” The duo also pointed out Liberty’s tuition reimbursement program and other educational partnerships that benefit employees, and talked about the opportunity for advancement, even without a college degree. “Once we got the conversation going, we heard some great questions,” says Jason. Kudos go to Liberty Banker Mary Ann Perrotti for organizing the event.
