Liberty Bank Foundation warmly congratulates two of our long-time partners, honored at the January 26 United Way of Middlesex County Annual Meeting: The Coalition on Housing and Homelessness (recipient of the Community Impact Award), and the Community Foundation of Middlesex County (honored with the Tocqueville Society Philanthropy Award).
In 2008, the Coalition set its sights on ending homelessness in our area in ten years — a momentous goal, and one that miraculously came to fruition. As of October, 2016, all chronically homeless people on the county’s waiting list had been matched with housing. This is a watershed achievement and precursor to the group’s new goal of addressing family and youth homelessness by 2020. We salute the tireless work of this group, including: Luis Amaro, Lydia Brewster, Geoff Crandall, Cindy Dubuque, Ann Faust, Bob Fusari, Ron Krom, Carla Moore, Sue Murphy, Dawn Parker, Caroline Perez, Howard Reid, Patti Vassia, and Kevin Wilhelm. Thanks for truly believing this was possible and making it happen!
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Community Foundation of Middlesex County just crossed the $20 million mark in its endowment, thanks to the generosity of local individuals and groups. Led by CEO and President Cynthia Clegg, the foundation has awarded a total of 1,815 grants for more than $5.4 million to support the arts, cultural and heritage programs, education, the environment, and health and human services in our local towns. This group, along with the Liberty Bank Foundation, came into being in 1997. Since that time, we have joined forces many, many times to maximize the value we could deliver for the nonprofits that depend on us.
Congratulations are also due to Liberty Bank board member David Director on his win of the Community Service Award. Since 2003, David has volunteered for the United Way, founding the Community Impact Council, which helps set funding priorities, and serving on its Board of Directors from 2005–2013. He is a corporator of Middlesex Community College and Middlesex Hospital, serves as the co-chair of the Rushford Center’s golf tournament, and is the founder and co-chair of the Interfaith golf tournament.
We count ourselves very lucky for having the friendship and support of these heroic community partners. Congratulations to all!
