Very excited GROW Windham teens roll out the green carpet for Liberty Bank Foundation Executive Director Sue Murphy (2nd from r) at their October 14 Open Garden Party. Their award-winning high-school workforce and leadership development program was one of just three that won our 20th anniversary grant competition.
Grant proceeds of $20,000 will allow GROW Windham to reach more youth, change to a youth-led model, and have a greater impact.
GROW Windham provides steady employment and opportunities for teens to assume increased responsibility and independence. Supported by professional mentors, program staff, and university interns, participants develop enterprises that promote access to healthy food in Windham, one of Connecticut’s most under-resourced communities. At the same time, teens build career portfolios, gain community advocacy skills, and earn leadership certificates that prepare them to build and teach a network of their peers.
