Here are two issues near and dear to the Liberty Bank Foundation mission — supporting those in need of shelter and food. You’ve seen a lot on this blog about housing and homelessness, so let’s talk hunger for a minute.
In a country as bountiful as ours, it’s a shame that anyone should have to worry about whether they will have food on their plates. But the reality is that hunger is still widespread across our nation. Many more of your neighbors than you might expect are living on the edge, forced to choose between basic necessities like purchasing food, paying rent, or going to the doctor.
Did you know:
43.1 million Americans live below the poverty level
42 million Americans are at risk of suffering from hunger
1 in 5 children in the U.S. live in poverty
Do you want to help solve the problem of hunger? Do you need something to eat? Here’s a great resource that will help you find a Connecticut food pantry closest to where you are. Go to any of these sites to drop off food or sign up for assistance. You can also donate right online.
