When it comes to food pantry selections, most people expect non-perishables. Well, today’s Connecticut Food Bank mobile food pantry delivery to Middletown featured fresh fruits and vegetables … cabbage, onions, Brussels sprouts, lettuce and blueberries. Fifty people were already lined up in the Cross Street AME Zion Church parking lot when the truck pulled in. Liberty Bankers Jamie Bentz (left) and Robin Fujio waited on customers, bagging the produce and collecting assigned numbers. Says Jamie, “People were very appreciative of what they received. It certainly made us thankful for what we have and we are looking forward to doing this each month that we can.” In all, about 178 people were served in just under one hour.
