Supporting Connecticut’s Homeless Families

Supporting Connecticut’s Homeless Families

Liberty Bank Branch Manager Carl Bonamico (r) presents a check for $10,000 to Columbus House Chief Development Officer John Brooks to help sustain two local homeless shelters. While Connecticut has made major strides in the fight against homelessness, Liberty Bank Foundation knows there is still important work to be done. The state has targeted the year 2020 to end homelessness for families and youth.

These funds will support two Columbus House programs that serve homeless families — The Middlesex Family Shelter in Middletown and the Wallingford Emergency Shelter. Both provide family shelter in duplexes for up to 90 days. During that time, shelter staff assist with finding a permanent place to live, accessing benefits, finding employment, school enrollment, and health counseling.

The immediate goal is to transition families into permanent housing; the ultimate goal is to provide the knowledge and resources needed to maintain housing indefinitely.

Thanks, Columbus House, for all the great things you do to bring housing stability to families that don’t know where to turn.
