Long-time friend of Liberty Bank Foundation and local activist Dawn Parker was recently named Person of the Week by The Source, a weekly paper covering Madison and Killingworth. By day, Dawn fights for affordable housing options through The Connection, Inc.; she spends evenings introducing local groups to ALICE.
Dawns heads the housing committee at the Shoreline Basic Needs Task Force, a local volunteer organization that supports individuals who are at risk due to lack of food, housing or income.
How does ALICE figure in all this? ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, and puts a face on a sizable, but often unacknowledged segment of the Connecticut population. Despite working, sometimes several jobs, ALICE residents still have trouble making ends meet.
Once community members meet ALICE and understand the realities of the high cost of living in Connecticut, Dawn works to drive home the need for more affordable housing in the state. We’re proud to have her as a friend and partner!
